A serpentine belt takes the place of a number of separate belts that were utilized in earlier car models and in components that are still used now like in radio and transistor. The function of all these belts is similar. They take power from the engine when it is running to power other devices in the car. These belts generate motion, either of a rotating part like fan or of a generator like power steering pump. The performance of the car is improved. The best part about the serpentine belts is that it can be fitted to the perfect tension and force without taking unnecessary care about the stretching duration. The stretching could have lessened the effectiveness of the belt or could have made it tough for the technician to deal with. The performance can be increased by suitably adjusting the tension and other moments . In addition, the life of the belt will be longer compared to a multiple belt system. Many of us like to do our own work by ourselves. Lots of people, either because for the love of it or because they are not economically well, prefer to change these belts of their automobiles on their own instead of going to the nearby auto technician or service station and incur some costs. These serpentine belts are easily replaceable manually and hence is more useful for such people. The basic reason is that the different engine part of belts doesn't have to be taken out. Removal and replacement of a single thing is needed to be done. But, as another added benefit, these serpentine belts are of an excellent durability and do not break very often. For vehicle drivers, the replacement of these belts is not a big issue. Once in a blue moon only, they have to accomplish this task if they take proper and good care of their car as well as its mechanical parts. But, like everything, these serpentine belts also have some negative property about them. When these belts do break, the car does not have any power provided to the engine components that are driven by the belt. This could be some problem for the driver and require labor. But these belts often wear away gradually and therefore indicating about its replacement. This indication is usually a strikingly great and immense noise or a humming sound. Therefore, the car owner can easily recognize the need for the belt to be changed.
