Some Tips for Harassment Training for the Workplace

Many organizations are concerned about providing harassment and bullying training to their employees. As this is a much discussed contemporary topic it has created awareness in many of the employers and staff. But to many, these training sessions may not appear to be that interesting, as most of the content comprises legalistic aspects. The training sessions may also include hundreds of PowerPoint slides, which may add monotony to the whole training. So for harassment training in the workplace, one needs to think of something that would be easy to understand and where the trainees will not feel bored. Hence, harassment training DVDs can be a good choice to cater relevant training for harassment and bullying in the workplace.

 

So here are some tips to make the harassment training sessions interesting as well as informative:

 

  • Making it Interactive: As the training is arranged it is better to involve the participants to make it more interactive rather than ending up in a dull and boring session. Different case studies can be referred in this context to make the training turn to be an effective one. Cases related to bad behavior, harassment, discrimination and bullying at workplaces could be brought in.

 

  • Initiate Discussion: Harassment training is not complete if the participants only play a passive role. Initially it can be catered as a lecture but as a trainer one is required to encourage debates, discussions and questions from participants.

 

  • Encourage Role Play: To make the training session more meaningful, a trainer can initiate role-play. This would provide a more effective learning experience for the participants. The trainer can also participate in this role-play. From the participatory group it is better to choose those who are willing to participate in a role-play instead of making it mandatory for them. 

 

Avoid Giving Personal Reference: Harassment training for employees

is meant to point out negative consequences and then change them. But it is not ethical to point out or refer to any particular person or certain group of people in the training. It is more about educating employees so that such unpleasant circumstances do not arise at the workplace.

 

  • Clear Misconceptions: During training, it is necessary to clear out certain misconceptions among employees. Some of them may be of the opinion that harassing employees is restricted to certain groups in an organization. But it has to be made clear that bad behavior can occur in any sphere of the workplace.
