At some stage or the other people do experience sweating on hands or in underarm area. It could be at the time of an interview for a new job, or meeting a new person at some social or business meeting. One may at times find the whole body to be soaked with sweat at the end of an aerobic exercise. That’s because human body releases sweat to keep its cool.

However, in certain cases, estimated to be one percent of population, the amount of sweating is more than necessarily required by the body to maintain its temperature. This condition where the system of producing sweat becomes hyperactive is called hyperhidrosis.

Locations of hyperhidrosis:

Hyperhidrosis can crop up suddenly or develop over a period of time. It affects these four areas: hands (palmar hyperhidrosis), armpits (axillary hyperhidrosis), feet (plantar hyperhidrosis), and face (facial hyperhidrosis).

Symptoms of hyperhidrosis

Getting affected by palmer hyperhidrosis, axillary hyperhidrosis, facial hyperhidrosis and or plantar hyperhidrosis is a very intense and unusual experience. It affects almost all aspects of one’s life, even day to day living and activities are affected or get restricted and that includes working at office or while indulging in obligatory social activities.

Hands may get sweaty and moist on meeting a person for the very first time, due nervousness or emotional stress. Palmar hyperhidrosis can get triggered on rubbing a small quantity of some lotion.

In extreme cases of palmer hyperhidrosis, one may notice sweat literally falling down from hands. This is perhaps the most distressing kind of hyperhidrosis. Usually such a condition is detected during early childhood. Those affected with this disorder are continually conscious of their state and resignedly learn to accept it as apart of life. The volume of sweating could vary from being just moist to real dripping. It’s quite often for such patients to have cold and damp hands.

Hands are naturally exposed during social interactions, making the sufferers of this health disorder of become too self conscious to have any social contact. They may not be keen to shake hands with others and may feel embarrassed in handling paper work, or even holding the hand of someone they love.

Axillary Hyperhidrosis: This is rather common and relates to abnormal sweating experienced in the underarm region. Surely, you have seen people in shirts with wet marks in armpits. It’s embarrassing when the shirt tends to stick to the skin. People facing this condition have to be careful in choosing the right colors and fabrics to avoid showing sweat marks.

Plantar Hyperhidrosis: This means extreme sweating on feet. The consequences are athlete’s foot and or foot odor. Now imagine the case of a driver affected by palmar along with plantar heprhidrosis! It makes difficult to have the required control and attention to the steering as well the foot pedal because of wet and slippery body parts.

Facial Hyperhidrosis: This refers to extreme sweating on the face without any apparent reason. It could be to the extent of making the person feel so self conscious that he begins to get withdrawn to himself. Facial sweating may be accompanied with facial blushing.
