themed cocktail parties

If it is your first time hosting a cocktail party or you are a seasoned professional there are always good ideas which can be used to make a party extra special, unique, and memorable. These are simple just outlines and a few pointers to get you going in the right direction; the rest is down to your imagination.

For one you could go for a James Bond theme. Of course this would make your party a classy occasion with plenty of tuxedos, gown dresses, and white cats turning up at your door step. To set the mood right you want to recreate one of those classic romantic Bond scenes so keep the lighting low. There is plenty of music to choose from and finding a Bond CD in your local music shop shouldn't be too hard. You could also decorate your walls with some classic bond movie posters. On top of this you want to serve some canap¨¦s. There is no need to go over the top spending a fortune to recreate one of the millionaire populated bond films, but buy food that gives the impression of class. And of course, most importantly, stock up on plenty of ingredients for Martinis and get shaking.

If you want to go for a historically themed party then there is no better era suited to a cocktail party than the roaring twenties, take a page out of Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. Cocktails were a massive party of the excessive 20s culture and many cocktails grew massively in popularity during this decade. Get the girls hair in a bob, the men in classy suits, get some swinging jazz music on the speakers and start practicing your Charleston.

Moving forward in time the 1950s was also a decade when cocktails were a prominent party of the culture. For a 50s party the girls will be arriving in wide-skirted dresses with their hair in ponytails, while the guys will be combing back their greasy hair with comb always on hand while sorting their skinny ties. Retro posters of Dean Martin, Sinatra, Elvis, Marilyn Munro, and James Dean will set the atmosphere perfectly. If you want to go a little further to create a full impression of the 50s you could look into a few charity chops for old lamps and glasses. Martinis and Manhattans should go perfectly with your theme.

For crowd that is looking for something that is a little more modern then why not go for a beach party. The selection of cocktails that are at your disposal will be countless: Mai Tai, Sex on the Beach, Pina Coladas to name but a few that would suit the theme, anything bright and colorful. No doubt everyone will have an old and unused beach shirt that has lain unwanted in the back of their closet for years. Shorts and sandals will complete the outfits. You could also adorn your guests with leis round the neck or flowers in their hair as they enter. To decorate your place you want to buy bright and tacky, go all out on the vibrancy of the night. A large beach backdrop on one of the walls would be great for some late night photos.

For something sophisticated you could go with a Breakfast at Tiffany's theme. Black and white outfits with the men in tuxedos and the ladies in black dresses. There is plenty of room for getting creative in the outfit department with big diamonds, over the top cigarette holders, monocles and long gloves. Low lighting with black and white decorations should set the party's atmosphere perfectly. Classy cocktails such as the Martini will suit the night while Sinatra plays in the back ground.
